Battery Basics: Voltage, Capacity, and C-Rate
Three ideas unlock most battery conversations: voltage, capacity, and C-rate. Understanding them helps you size systems, compare products, and avoid misuse. Voltage Nominal voltage is the labeled system voltage of a cell or battery (for example, a common lead-acid cell is about 2 V nominal). Batteries are series-connected to reach higher system voltages and parallel-connected to increase available current or capacity. Capacity Capacity is usually stated in ampere-hours (Ah).
